Oak Hills is located north of Beaverton and west of the city of Portland. It has a population of around 9,050, according to the 2000 census, and is bordered by NW Sunset Highway (US Highway 26) to the south.

Adjacent communities include Cedar Mill, Bethany, and Tanasbourne. The community is small and close-knit. Oak Hills was a planned community, with the first homes built in 1965. The Oak Hills neighborhood was built in a large circle with fields, walking trails, and an elementary school based in the middle. There is a total of 650 residences, 627 of which are single-family homes. As Oak Hills is one of the first planned developments in Oregon, it has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. All these properties are managed by a single, centralized Homeowners’ Association (HOA).

Oak Hill is a relatively wealthy area, with a median household income of $61,217. Only about 1.4% of families and 3.8% of the total population were below the poverty line, according to the Census Bureau.

Oak Hills is part of the Beaverton school district, and Oak Hills homes have Beaverton addresses assigned to them. EMS and fire protection services are provided by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
