Cornelius, Oregon, is located directly west of Hillsboro, and is about a 25-minute drive from the city of Portland. The city is bisected by Route 8, which provides easy access to Hillsboro, Beaverton, and eventually into Portland.
Transportation
The city was first incorporated in 1893, and it has an estimated population of 13k. The city is located within the Tri-Met district, with public transit provided by the bus line 57-TV Highway, where it connects with cities like Forest Grove, and the Portland MAX light rail in Hillsboro.
Real Estate
There are a total of 3,499 housing units in the area, and the majority of these are single-family homes. But if you head south of the city towards Newberg, you will find many agricultural properties and wide open spaces. The most notable farm and berry distributer, Unger Farms, lives just on the southern border of Cornelius and provides produce across all of Washington County and beyond.
Economy
Cornelius is the headquarters of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, which operates in the Washington and Yamhill counties, providing health clinics, dental offices, and school-based health centers, as well as a women’s clinic. Many of its residents work in retail of food service or community to the surrounding larger cities of Hillsboro, Beaverton and Portland for more opportunities.
Education
Cornelius is served by the Forest Grove school district to the west, and by the Hillsboro school district in the east. There are also several private schools in Cornelius, including Swallowtail School.
